The city also contains a growing share of townhomes, apartments, and mixed-use developments near its employment centers and along major corridors. Large established communities such as Forest Creek, Teravista, and the Brushy Creek area offer mature landscaping, schools, and amenity-rich living across the central and western portions of the city. Newer subdivisions continue to rise along the northern and eastern edges, extending the city's footprint into Williamson County's growing frontier. Round Rock is anchored by Round Rock Independent School District, one of the largest and most recognized school systems in Central Texas. The district operates dozens of campuses—including numerous elementary, middle, and high schools—and serves students from Round Rock as well as portions of Austin, Cedar Park, and surrounding communities. Because the district is large and highly rated, it is a significant draw for families relocating to the area. Some parts of the city fall within Leander ISD or Georgetown ISD boundaries, so school assignment depends on the specific address. The presence of multiple well-regarded districts, along with private and charter options, gives Round Rock families a broad range of educational choices.

Interstate 35 is Round Rock's central transportation spine, bisecting the city and connecting it directly south to Austin and north to Georgetown and beyond. The corridor can be congested at peak times, but it provides the region's primary north–south route, while State Highway 45 and other toll and arterial roads offer east–west alternatives and access to other parts of the metro. Capital Metro provides limited bus service into Round Rock, including routes that connect to its Austin network, though most residents rely on personal vehicles. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is reachable via the regional highway network. Within the city, a growing trail system and park roadways support local movement, and the city's large employment base reduces the number of long commutes for residents who work locally.

Round Rock offers a deep bench of recreation and entertainment. Dell Diamond is home to the Round Rock Express minor league baseball team and hosts community events throughout the year, while Kalahari Resorts provides a large indoor water park and convention space. The city's park system is extensive, anchored by the Brushy Creek greenbelt and the namesake Round Rock in the creek that gave the city its name. Trails, sports complexes, and neighborhood parks are distributed across the city, supporting soccer, baseball, swimming, and outdoor recreation. Old Settlers Park is a major multi-use facility for festivals and youth sports.
